We always know we’re in for something exciting when we interview the dynamic stars of The Vampire Diaries. But even Wetpaint Entertainment was surprised when we got on the phone with Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan) on September 27, and he informed us that he was driving to the Braves/Phillies game with Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes) riding shotgun! Don’t worry: He was using his hands-free device. In our exclusive pre-game interview, Zach dishes about how the ghost of Vicki (Kayla Ewell) will effect Matt’s relationships, shares his vision of a revamped town council, and speculates on a future for Matt and Elena (Nina Dobrev). And Candice chimes in, too!
Wetpaint Entertainment: Matt and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) have a little bromance going on this season. Will the whole ghost thing put their friendship in jeopardy?
Zach Roerig: Oh no, no. Not at all. It’s just the opposite. I think it will bring their relationship closer.
Do the stars of Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec’s original monster-fest The Vampire Diaries watch their supernatural sister series The Secret Circle? If Wetpaint Entertainment’s totally random, casual sampling is anything to go by, the cast is split.
We asked Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan) if he’d checked out Chance Harbor last week as he drove himself and castmate Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes) to the Braves game in Atlanta. “No I haven’t,” he told us exclusively. “But Candice has told me that it’s actually pretty cool. I actually hung out with the cast at the Fall CW party and they all seemed very excited. A bunch of them, I’m sure they’ll enjoy Vancouver. I think they’re a great group of people.”
So then what show is he really psyched for this season? “I’m kind of excited to see Terra Nova,” he said. “I actually DVR’ed it last night and I’m going to watch it later tonight. And you know our fellow Vampire Diaries alumni David Anders [John Gilbert] actually has a recurring role on the show, so I’m really excited to see more.”

Jeremy Gilbert might not be the only Mystic Falls resident haunted by ghosts. Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan) tells TV Line that Matt, The Vampire Diaries’ token human, will become rather close to the little Gilbert, and it seems this unlikely duo have a lot in common.
While we’re pretty sure Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) won’t actually be producing baby hybrids anytime soon (they are still in high school), Candice Accola teased we might see some sexy scenes between the two in Season 3.
Candice tells E! that Caroline “definitely has scenes with Tyler” in the season premiere and adds she doesn’t know “what kind of clothing they might be wearing.” (Or not wearing. Check out the Season 3 promo video to see a seriously stripped-down Caroline.) But Candice says Caroline also has scenes with ex-boyfriend Matt (Zach Roerig), who she definitely has unfinished business with. Sounds like the cheerleader vamp will be busy this season!
OK, so Candice wouldn’t specifically tell E! if Caroline is hooking up with the teen wolf, but she did say, “Caroline is exploring her relationships with friends, potential lovers, and family.” Considering executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson are rooting for some “hot werewolf/vampire sex,” we’ll just assume one of those explorations includes Tyler. And a bed.

Seriously, we’ve got Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) tearing it up together (literally!), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric (Matt Davis) being their usual awesome selves, and now Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig) have thrown their names in the hat for best TVD bromance. They’d like to thank Vicki (Kayla Ewell), Matt’s dead sister who has been visiting Jer, and weed for making this nomination possible.
